Netizens argue that in the broadcast, Hwasa is wearing an outfit that looked similar to a traditional Nigerian outfit.
Hwasa faced massive backlash over her outfit after some people accused her of mocking the traditional Nigerian clothing. According to them, Hwasa commited cultural appropriation.
On July 25, MBC released an official statement to clarify the accusations against MAMAMOO's Hwasa through the comments section of the YouTube video that caused the controversy.
According to the official statement, Hwasa's outfit is a Korean 'sauna' look that Hwasa often wore on the program. MBC explained that they "had no intention of comically presenting a traditional outfit of a particular country".
